Appointment Information

Initial Appointment
Your first appointment involves a detailed case history so I can fully understand your presenting concerns, relevant medical history, and overall health. This helps me assess and treat you safely and effectively, with a clear picture of your individual needs.

If treatment is not appropriate, or if further investigation is required, you may be referred to your GP or another appropriate health professional to ensure the safest and most effective care.

Follow-Up Appointments
Each follow-up appointment includes an assessment of your progress, based on your feedback and clinical observations. Treatment is then adapted according to how your body is responding and what it needs at that time.

Again, if treatment is not appropriate you will be referred to your GP or relevant health professional.

What to Bring to Your Appointment
If you have them, please bring any relevant test results or reports from previous investigations, such as colonoscopy or endoscopy reports, scans, or blood tests. These can help provide a clearer picture of your health history and support a more informed assessment.
Number of Treatments
Many people ask how many treatments are needed to see results. This varies from person to person — some notice improvement quickly, while others may require a longer course of treatment or occasional maintenance sessions.

To begin, I often recommend weekly appointments for the first 3–4 sessions. This allows us to build momentum and better understand how your body is responding. I also provide simple self-care strategies to support your progress between sessions.

Once symptoms are more stable, treatment can usually be spaced further apart, with occasional maintenance appointments if needed.

Factors that may influence recovery time include:

Duration of the issue
Stress levels, sleep, diet, and lifestyle factors
Age and overall health
Existing health conditions
General wellbeing
Important Considerations
Treatment may involve assessment of the abdomen for gut-related concerns and the jaw (TMJ) for jaw-related issues. Other areas contributing to your symptoms may also be assessed as part of a whole-body approach.

In some cases, this may involve dressing down to your underclothes. Your modesty and comfort are always respected, and draping is used throughout treatment. Shorts, leggings, and singlet tops are available if preferred, or you are welcome to bring your own. Please let me know at any time if you feel uncomfortable.

Most treatment is gentle, though some areas may feel sensitive during assessment or treatment. Your feedback is important throughout, and techniques are always adjusted to keep you as comfortable as possible.

Occasionally, a temporary increase in symptoms or mild soreness may occur in the days following treatment. This is usually short-lived and part of the body’s normal response to change.

If you are unwell prior to your appointment, it is best to reschedule and consult your GP. Ongoing or unresolved symptoms may also require medical review or further investigation.

You are welcome to bring a friend or family member to your appointment if you prefer. Your privacy and confidentiality are always respected.

Payment & Private Health Insurance

Most major credit cards are accepted. Cash, bank transfer, and PayID are also available — please let me know your preference.
Medicare Benefits
In certain circumstances, when a condition is chronic, osteopathy may be covered under Medicare’s GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP), previously known as the Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) program.

If you have a condition such as digestive issues, abdominal discomfort, or TMJ dysfunction that has been present for more than 6 months, you may be eligible. You will need to see your GP first, and if appropriate, they can provide you with a GPCCMP referral.

Rebates can be processed on the day at Chatswood and North Sydney via HICAPS. At Killarney Heights, an invoice will be emailed to you so you can claim your rebate through Medicare online or in person at a Services Australia office.

Please note that Medicare rebates do not cover the full cost of treatment, and a gap fee will apply. Your GP or Services Australia can advise you of your rebate amount.
Cancellation Policy
We kindly ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. This allows the appointment time to be offered to another patient.

Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed appointments, may incur the full appointment fee.

Frequently Ask Questions

Do I need a referral?
No. You do not need a referral to see an osteopathic practitioner. However, a referral is required if you are accessing Medicare rebates under a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring any relevant test results or reports from your GP or specialists, such as blood tests, imaging, or endoscopy/colonoscopy reports. These can help support a more informed assessment.
What should I wear?
Loose, comfortable clothing is best, such as leggings, shorts with an elasticated waistband, and a singlet or t-shirt. Shorts and singlets are available at the clinic if needed, but you are welcome to bring your own.
Do you use spinal manipulation in your treatment?
Spinal manipulation is only one of many techniques available in osteopathy and is not commonly used in my practice.

If it is ever considered appropriate, it would always be discussed with you beforehand and only used with your full consent. There are always alternative approaches available, and your comfort and preferences are respected at all times.
How will I feel after treatment?
Most people feel a sense of relaxation and may notice an improvement in symptoms after treatment.

Occasionally, you may feel mild tenderness or a temporary increase in awareness of symptoms for a short period afterwards. This is usually short-lived as the body adapts to change.

If you have any concerns following treatment, please feel free to contact your osteopath.
