Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral?
No. You do not need a referral to see an osteopath practitioner.
What is your cancellation policy?
We kindly ask that 24 hours notice is given for cancelling an appointment so that your session may be offered to another person. Failure to give the required notice will result in the full fee being charged.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring any test results you have from your GP or specialists. This may include blood tests, imaging reports or scope reports.
What should I wear?
Loose comfortable clothing like leggings or shorts with elasticated waist bands and singlet or t-shirt are best. Shorts and singlets will be available at the clinic if needed but feel free to bring your own.
How many treatments will I need?
There is no definitive answer to this. Some people respond quickly to treatment and only need a few, while others may take months or need regular maintenance appointments. Scheduling regular appointments in the beginning and doing home self-care when relevant help. Some people find that once things are under good control they may occasionally need to come for a maintenance treatment from time to time. Things that may affect healing time may be how long you have had the issue, lifestyle factors like stress, sleep, diet and exercise, your age, your overall health, any other health conditions you have and sometimes your mindset.
Is treatment covered by Health Funds?
Yes, osteopathy is recognised by all health funds under extras and a Hicaps machine is available at Chatswood and North Sydney clinics. At Killarney Heights you will receive an invoice so you may claim directly with your provider. Everyone's health policy is different so please check directly with your provider to make sure your plan has extras and includes osteopathy.
Is osteopathy covered by Medicare?
In certain circumstances Osteopathy is covered under Medicare’s Enhanced Primary Care Programme. (EPC). To be eligible you first need to consult your GP and if they feel it is appropriate they can provide you with a specific EPC referral.
Do you use spinal manipulation in your treatment?
Manipulation is only one of the tools available osteopaths and if you feel uncomfortable with this technique or any other used there are other approaches available. This technique is very rarely used and this would always be explained and discussed with you beforehand if believed it may benefit. Your comfort and trust are important and no technique will be applied against your wishes.
How will I feel after treatment?
While most people report feeling a lessening of symptoms and relaxation after treatment, on occasion you may be more aware of your symptoms for a short period following treatment or tenderness may be present. Visceral pain can be complicated and sometimes pain may present when it is least expected. If you are concerned please talk to your osteopath.
