These are just general guidelines and any concerns or changes in your digestion should always be discussed with your GP so that you get the correct diagnosis allowing for the most appropriate management plan that is individual to you and gets to the root cause of your problem.

If you experience any of the following symptoms, please do not ignore them but as soon as possible book an appointment with your GP to rule out anything serious and to get a diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

  • Blood in the stool or black tarry stool (known as melaena)

  • Significant changes in bowel habits that are not resolving

  • Unintentional & unexplained weight loss

  • Unexplained loss of appetite

  • Having night time diarrhoea that isn't gastroenteritis

  • Persistent difficulty swallowing or painful swallowing

  • A lot of mouth ulcers in addition to digestive issues

  • Frequent and severe heartburn

  • Constant nausea or vomiting

  • Vomit with blood
